Summer @AMP 2024
Like summer camp, the Summer @AMP enrichment program offers the perfect balance of structured support and independence for kids, tweens, and teens. Our summer day programs empower kids and teens, giving them expansive opportunities to play, create, make friends, and try new things—all right here on the AMP campus, mentored by their teaching artists. Summer @AMP is often the highlight of school vacation.
Diversity and Inclusion
AMP serves a diverse community and welcomes families of all backgrounds, abilities, and orientations. We strive to ensure a sense of belonging for all.
Scholarships are available. Email michelle@americanmuralproject.org to apply.
Summer @AMP may also be tax deductible if your child is under 13. Check with your tax advisor for details.
Teen Music Jam
July 29–August 2
9am–3:30pm
The ultimate, expansive group music experience for ages 13–17
Young musicians will be amazed at what they can perform at the end of this five-day program, with the mentorship of teaching artist Ed Fast. Participants will play as part of a group, compose songs, and expand musically—exploring a wide variety of music, including Afro-Cuban music and jazz.
Dabble @AMP
July 29–August 2
8:30am–3pm
Guided artistic play and self-expression—indoors and outdoors—for ages 7–11.
Kids with an appetite for creative play will find oodles of fun-filled art adventures in Dabble. Open-ended projects will spark their imagination, and kids will dive into various mediums using lots of tactile materials. Guided by their teaching artist, kids will create artwork—both outdoors and indoors—and experiment with many techniques.
Teen Art Studio @AMP
July 22–26
9am–3:30pm
Authentic art exploration for ages 12–17.
In this relaxed, supportive, and social setting, teens can really step into their power as creators. They’ll choose their own art projects and mediums and—with their dedicated teaching artist’s guidance—create independently and collaboratively.
Grow @AMP
Exploring, gardening, and art-making in the natural world for ages 7–11.
Let kids dig into nature—and watch them bloom. This experiential program sparks kids’ innate wonder. Fun, hands-on, outdoor projects engage kids in gardening and landscaping, environmental art-making, citizen science, inquiry, and self-discovery.
Outdoor Design & Build
Real-life carpentry and woodworking for kids 12 and up.
Dream it and build it! In this small-group outdoor program, tweens and teens will design, plan, and build a lasting wood structure. Working together, under the guidance of an experienced woodworker-artisan duo, kids gain practical skills—and confidence—using hand tools to create projects.
STEAM @AMP
Fun tech-art activities that spark the imagination for kids 7–11.
Yes, it is rocket science! We’ll be blasting art into STEM projects in partnership with CT STEM Academy to create some STEAM. This five-day program is all about hands-on fun. Kids will experiment, invent, and reimagine their creations using cutting-edge technology and art materials.
“Evan wasn’t interested in doing any kind of camp until we heard AMP was offering one. Right away we decided to sign up. The first day Evan came home so ecstatic about everything they did and learned. He couldn’t believe this is what he gets to do all week and couldn’t wait to go again. The only wish he had was that it lasted all summer. Even if your child does or doesn’t know their passion yet, AMP offers something kids don’t do as much as they should, and that’s art, whatever it is that art means to them. And I want to thank AMP for helping my son find his passion.”
–Jennifer King, parent of Evan, participant in AMP’s summer enrichment programs and the CHAMPS after-school programs
